I am compelled to address the heartbreaking situation unfolding in Tripura, where devastating floods have wreaked havoc on numerous communities. More than 1 Lakh at one point. Homes have been destroyed, livelihoods shattered and the local economy has suffered an estimated loss exceeding ₹15,000 crores. Even more alarming is the ripple effect this disaster has had on Tripura’s GDP, contributing approximately to a loss of over ₹5,000 crores. Rs.20,000 Cr , 30 % of Tripura's GDP.
Yet, amidst this widespread suffering, mainstream media remains largely silent, while Tripuris, The Government in the State and Centre and NGO's are working 24/7 to rebuild. I find it truly disheartening that the plight of an entire state goes unnoticed in the mainstream national media, while political stunts, comedy, slander, banter from a few leaders & walkathons receive ample coverage. Is it only TRP? The media's selective coverage raises questions about priorities and accountability.
We @Basiz simply refuse to just stand by and take no action! Through a "Shatha Sahay Abhiyaan" initiative, we’ve mobilized resources to provide essential supplies—water, milk, biscuits, and over 1,000 doses of critical medicines from the Generic Jan Aushadhi Kendra. Can you believe that our Honorable PM vision meant that we could buy some critical medicines to fend off fever, malaria , dengue, vomiting and diarrhea at very reasonable prices and readily available in the state where a 40 rain year record of 300 millis was broken. It is a proud and humbling moment to have contributed directly to the Tripura CM Relief Fund, as part of a commitment to the state and her people!
My connection to Tripura runs deep; we had established our office in Agartala One among the Five, did so with the belief that the Northeast holds immense potential. Today, that office employs 23 young professionals in International financial Services, who are a testament to this vision that anybody can achieve, if the governance environment and the leadership is an enabler and the private sector has the vision and faith . It is not only a testament to our belief in the potential of the Northeast but also a vital part of our Look East-Act North East Policy.
I urge everyone to join us in amplifying their cries for help and providing the support they so desperately need. The silence surrounding this disaster is a disservice to the people of Tripura. It's time to amplify their voices & demand support from the entire country. I stand and urge you to do your bit.
Vande Mataram.
Jai Bharatam.
